-Everyone has been working hard the past 3 weeks focusing on conditioning, building strength and mobility and maintaining a good solid base for the outdoor season. -We have had a lot of great opportunities to get outside to run, jump and hurdle as well as throw and high jump in the gym. -This is really a great, hard working group that looks to be competitive throughout this season and set themselves up for even bigger improvements in the outdoor season. -With 29 team members this is one of the largest groups we have had, but I would always love to see more out. I really feel that this season can give those in outdoor track an opportunity to come into season in great shape. -We will again be traveling to Edinboro to compete in the Tri State Track Coaches Association meets which hosts an annual Championship meet the week before the State meet where athletes that obtain the qualifying standard have the chance to compete. Also we will again be traveling to Geneva, Ohio to the SPIRE Institute to compete two times during the season and to Hagerstown Community College in Maryland to compete over Christmas break. We have added a meet to a brand new facility at Mercersburg Academy that will open our season up on December 8th and our Shot Put throwers and Pole Vaulters will also get some extra opportunities to travel to compete at Hempfield High School on several occasions throughout the season. The athletic department has really been helpful in building a quality schedule for our athletes over the past couple of years and I really think its showing in our turn out of athletes and their performances at the Tri-State level. 2017 Returning Tri State Championships Qualifiers 1. Coming into this season she is ranked 9th in the shot put in PA. Since her outdoor season where she set new school records in the shot put and discus, she has been working every day, sometimes twice a day, at getting stronger and technique. She has the ability to be a medal contender in both the indoor and the outdoor season. Also throwing shot put will be Shawnelle Miller, who made a huge improvement during the outdoor track season. Alyse Whitman, Girls Co-Captain, placed 19th in the 400m and 21st in the 800m at the TSTCA Championships last year and will be running mid-distance and relays in her second indoor track and field season. Alyse was District 9 runner up in outdoor track in the 800m during her sophomore season and placed 6th last year. Midori Bridges and Kaitlin Doverspike both will be competing in their first indoor season in the jumps and relays. Midori was a District 9 runner up in outdoor track and field in the High Jump as a sophomore and placed 5th last season. Kaitlin made some nice improvements in the long and triple jumps and was an alternate on our 4x400 relay team. Sophia Lambiotte and Paige Beatty will split their time between working with the throwers, sprinters and jumpers. Antonio Stello, Boys Co-Captain, placed 9th at the TSTCA Championships last year in the 200m, missing the state qualifying standard by less than a tenth of a second. Antonio lowered his 200m time during the outdoor season and was a part of the 4x100 District 9 Champion relay team. Coming into the season he is ranked 38th in the 200m in PA. Matthew Wehrle, Boys Co-Captain, will be running mid-distance and relays in his first season of indoor track. He is a two-time District 9 Champion during the outdoor season in the 800m and has shown his ability to be a threat in the relays. Jake Pearce is also a new-comer to the indoor season. He was part of the 4x100 District 9 Champion relay team last year and will be sprinting and running relays during the indoor season. Ty Knarr, Boys Co-Captain, will be focusing on hurdles, sprints, and relays throughout his third indoor season. He was a medal winner in the 300m hurdles with a 5th place finish last outdoor season. Ben Presloid, who was a 5th place finisher during the outdoor season last year in pole vault will primarily be working with the sprinters. Juniors Bayden Lyle was a TSTCA qualifier in the 60m hurdles last indoor season. Due to injury he was unable to compete; however he had the 5th ranked time going into the Championship meet. Bayden will be focusing on hurdling, relays and jumps during the indoor season. Coming into the indoor season he is the 19th ranked returning 60m hurdler in PA. Alex Gianvito, will be running sprints and relays in his first indoor track season. During last outdoor track season, Alex was part of the 4x100 District 9 Champion relay team. Kevin Ingros, Ethan May and Evan States are returning TSTCA Championship qualifiers. The trio were part of the 4x800 relay team, while Kevin and Evan were also part of the 4x400 relay team. Evan also was a qualifier in the High Jump. Evan will split time between the mid-distance, relays and jumps, while Ethan will run distance and Kevin will be running mid-distance and the relays. Sophomores Owen Bartlebaugh comes to indoor track for his first season after having successful campaigns in cross country and outdoor track. He has been District 9 runner up in cross country as well as in the 1600m in outdoor track last year as a freshman. Corbin Heitzenrater was an alternate on the TSTCA qualifying 4x800 relay team. He recently finished off a successful season of cross country where he qualified individually for the PIAA State Cross Country Meet. Alex Martin, Josh Bellerillo and Jacob Bellerillo each come into their second indoor track and field season. Alex and Josh will primarily be throwing shot put, while Jacob will be running sprints and mid-distance. Another new-comer, Jeremy Harris, will be splitting time between the sprints and jumps. Taegan Ludwig, Makena Nesbitt, and Ashaunti Damore are all out for their first season of indoor track and field. Taegan was a District 9 track qualifier in both the shot and javelin during her freshman year, while Makena was a qualifier in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the 4x400 relay. Madison Stonbraker is returning for her second season of indoor track after a successful cross country campaign. She will primarily be focused on the distance events. Freshman Riley Franklin and Aiden McLaughlin both had success at the junior high level in the mid-distance to distance races and look to be great additions to the team.

4x800
Team of Alex Eberhart, Ethan May, Evan States, Kevin Ingros in 9:21.24 placing 20th. Alex matched his personal best split in the relay and Ethan ran a seasonal best split. . 60 Hurdles Bayden Lyle injured himself in warm ups last weekend and was unable to compete. He really had an opportunity to earn a medal, since he was ranked 5th coming into the championship meet. 400 Alyse Whitman in 66.18 placing 19th. 800 Alyse Whitman in 2:40.31 in 21st. Alyse ran two close races and came away with some nice times. It was quite an accomplishment she made to qualify in two individual events. High Jump Evan just missed the opening height of 5-3. I think he had a bit of nerves between his relay and trying to do his best in the Jump. 200 Antonio Stello in 23.42 placing 9th. Antonio has run very consistent this season. Comparing to last years championship race he improved 11 places and over a whole second in his finish time. I know he was a bit disappointed to miss getting a medal by one spot; however, as a coach you couldn’t ask for a more perfect race from him. 4x400 Team of Kevin Ingros, Alex Eberhart, Antonio Stello, Evan States in 3:52.61 placing 16th. Alex and Antonio ran their best splits so far this season and the team saw almost a two second improvement from their seasons best. Shot Put Sam Dyson in 37’ 4.5’’ placing 3rd. Sam was the teams lone medal winner on the day. Her throw was her best of the indoor season. She improved 11 spots from last years championship. Her hard work has really paid off and it was nice to see her be rewarded with a medal. It was nice to see several individuals and relays either match or improve their seeded placement. I feel that it is quite an accomplishment to make the qualifying standards that the Tri State sets. All the athletes involved in the indoor track program are going to be reaping the benefits in a few short weeks when the outdoor track season begins. Coach In the field events Madison Stonbraker matched her best in the high jump (4-2).
On the track Alex Eberhart (800), Alyse Whitman (400, 800), Elia Gaston (800), Evan States (400), Antonio Stello (200) all achieved personal bests for the indoor season. Alex ran two solid 800 races today. It’s nice to see his improvements. Alyse ran her all time best in the 400, then followed that up with a strong race in the 800. Elia has made a lot of improvements to her race this season, I look forward to seeing her continue into the outdoor season. Evan’s strength is really growing. He has shown that he can handle moving between the field events and track events quite well. Antonio looked the best I have seen him race all winter in his 200. The team will be sending these relays and individuals to compete at the Championship meet on Saturday. 4x800: Alex, States, EMay, Ingros, Corbin 4x400: Alex, States, Antonio, Bayden, Ingros, EMay, Corbin 60Hurdles: Bayden 200: Antonio High Jump: States 400: Alyse 800: Alyse Shot: Sam Looking forward to some PR's and hopefully some potential medals. Coach Another two great meets with some outstanding performances at both the SPIRE Center and Edinboro University.
At SPIRE: In the field events Josh Bellerillo (Shot Put) made his best indoor mark so far this season. On the track Dillon Perry (60m), Bayden Lyle (60m), Antonio Stello (200m), Jenna Barnoff (60H, 400m), Jacob Bellerillo (400m), Alex Eberhart (mile, 4x800m relay, 4x400m relay), Ethan May (3200m), Ty Knarr (800m), Evan States (1600m, 4x800m, 4x400m relay), Kevin Ingros (800m), Corbin Heitzenrater (3200m), Madison Stonbraker (1600m) all made improvements in their specific events and achieved personal bests for the indoor season. Bayden did a fantastic job handling all three of his events within a short time period. It was nice to see him win the 60 hurdles. Antonio bettered his outdoor district championship time and looks to be on the verge of dropping below 24 seconds. Alex and Evan each had two nice relay splits (4x800 and 4x400). Ethan and Corbin both raced very competitively in the 3200. Ty did a fantastic job competing in his first 800 race. Madison has been steadily improving in the 1600 each meet. At TSTCA # 3: In the field events Evan States (High Jump) and Dillon Perry (Shot Put) both made their best indoor marks so far this season, with Evan’s mark achieving the TSTCA qualifying standard. Dillon has been working extremely hard this year and it was nice to see such a big improvement for him today. Evan had some very nice jumps. He is approaching the event with more confidence. On the track Alex Eberhart (mile) and Corbin Heitzenrater (3000m) both achieved personal bests for the indoor season. Alex was really hoping to go under 5 minutes today, but overall I was very pleased with how he ran his race. He is getting stronger and has been improving steadily since the first meet. Corbin ran another smart race today. For a freshman, he does a fantastic job at running very even splits throughout his race. The boys 4x400 relay was able to achieve the TSTCA qualifying standard time today. Kevin Ingros ran a personal best for his 400 split. The girls 4x200 relay ran a respectable time winning their heat. Alyse Whitman ran a personal best for her 200 split. I think we can continue to improve with a focus put on the essentials: 1. Being at practice daily 2. Giving your best every day/Positive Attitude 2. Nutrition/Hydration 3. Sleep 4. Stretching Coach Another good day of competing for everyone. It was a positive to see so many members of the team with personal bests or seasonal bests.
Bayden, Alex, E May, Ty, States, Ingros, Corbin, Elia, Sophia, and Alexis all achieved either a seasonal or personal best. Lets keep working hard and focus on doing what is needed to see those personal bests keep coming! I think everyone should check out the link above titled Nutrition, there is a lot of useful information about things that you can control other than practice to make you a better athlete. As always check out the race results from the meet and the great photos that are posted! Coach Good Job to all who traveled to Edinboro to compete! We saw Antonio (200m) and the 4x800 relay team both hit qualifying times for the championship meet. Bayden improved his qualifying time in the hurdles (60m). We need to remember that there is a limit of 18 to 24 competitors selected for the championship, so improving our marks as the season goes on is very important. I think everyone did a great job with team warm ups and specific event warm ups. Remember daily practice is only one part of the puzzle to being a competitive indoor track and field athlete. Sleep, Eating Habits and a Positive Attitude are going to help each of us achieve our fullest potential! Don't forget to check out the results from the meet, as well as the photos. Coach Great first meet by all those who attended!
Check out the results page to see everyone's individual results. This was a good starting point, now lets continue to work hard to make more improvements. Coach Red Team White Team
